Sharing Session 2: Life of Muslims in Germany
May 9, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Free
Germany considers itself as a country of religious diversity. Since the 1950’s Germany has received a large number of migrants. Today approximately 4 million Muslims live in Germany. But how do they feel living in a secular state?
In July 2018 14 Indonesian citizens had the opportunity to join a two-week study trip to Germany and explore questions of this nature. The young Indonesian intellectuals from various parts of the archipelago met with German Muslims and were able to learn about Islam specific discourses in Germany. The program aimed at providing a platform for intercultural exchange. In Berlin, Hamburg and Göttingen, the participants visited Islamic institutes at Universities and met with Islamic unions and organizations. There they took the opportunity to discuss interesting and hot topics with German Muslims Islamic scholars. At the Sharing Session they will share their impressions with the audience.
Speakers in Surabaya:
- Ita Fajria Romly (Medical doctor in Health Care Centre Pondok Pesantren Nazhatut Thullab)
- Luhung Achmad Perguna (Lecturer of Dept of Sociology Universitas Negeri Malang)
During the Sharing Session the participants will share their experience and insights from Germany in a 15-minute presentation. The presentations will be followed by question and answer sessions and a lively discourse with the audience.
