Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr or abbreviated as FSJ is a program created by the German government for people who want to seek work experience and gain competent skills in the social and intercultural fields.
Social work for adolescents through Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr (FSJ / www.pro-fsj.de) in the social sector, especially social work with elderly people, sick, and with special needs, with children and adolescents while volunteering in the field of environment Freiwilliges Ökologisches Jahr (FÖJ / www.foej.de) in environmental conservation, in the fields of agriculture, forestry and waterworks & animal protection, livestock and landscaping, education about the environment, information and communication about the environment.
The limit age is 27 years. The social workforce office or Bundesfreiwiligendienst (BFD) offers the above programs without age restrictions. These social programs are distributed by the organizations in Germany from six months to two years in duration, but generally only around one year. Volunteers’ desire to serve the common good and gain competent abilities in the volunteers’ social and intercultural field is the primary purpose of participating in this social work program.

FSJ
Living as an Au-pair provides an opportunity for teenagers to deepen their language skills and get to know foreign cultures abroad. The Au-pairs will live in the host family; the relationship between the Au-pair and the host family is mutually beneficial. Au-pairs help with childcare and help with the daily chores of the host family’s household. In return, the host family provides shelter, daily necessities, and health insurance, provides pocket money, and provides the opportunity to take German language courses. When entering Germany, Au-pairs must be at least 18 years old and a maximum of 26 years old.
