GERMAN SWISS HIGHER EDUCATION FAIR 2023
The German-Swiss Higher Education Fair (GSHEF) is an annual event organized by Wisma Jerman. Due to a growing demand for information about Germany and Switzerland as destinations for higher education, in 2023 the GSHEF was held twice. The first edition was held online on March 5th. It aimed at reaching a large audience from all over Indonesia. Online editions of the GSHEF during the pandemic years 2020 and 2021 have shown the immense interest that exists outside of the two major cities Jakarta and Surabaya. The second edition in 2023 was held offline on November 25th at TS Suites Artotel Surabaya.
A total of eight organisations (including Wisma Jerman) focusing on higher education in Germany and Switzerland were present to inform the visitors about different options to continue their education abroad and their respective requirements. Among the participating institutions were the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Yayasan Indonesia Jerman and Studienkolleg Indonesia as well as Akademikerfinanz Mannheim representing the Techniker Krankenkasse.
The GSHEF 2023 was opened with remarks from Ms. Ina Lepel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, followed by remarks by Mr. Mike Neuber, Director of Wisma Jerman, Ms. Hannilette Diola, The Head of Language Department of Wisma Jerman and Ms. Atiko, SS, M.Si, who participated on behalf of the Education Department of Surabaya . Thereafter all exhibitors introduced themselves and their activities in front of the audience and received visitors at their respective booths where they shared tips and tricks and offered individual counselling.
After being introduced at last year’s GSHEF, this year’s event again expanded its scope and included vocational education (Ausbildung) as an important aspect. Approximately 200 people came to find out more about options for studying in Germany and Switzerland, learn about student life and scholarships, how to participate in Ausbildung and much more. Other highlights of the agenda were a Schnupperkurs (short course in German) conducted by the Wisma Jerman team and a few quizzes and mini games about the GSHEF, Germany and Wisma Jerman. Participants in these activities could win Wisma Jerman goodie bags as well as exciting prizes provided by some of the sponsors of the event such as the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Francoville Boulangerie, Astaganaga, GoGo Fried Chicken and Pizza Hut Delivery.
The continued support from all parties involved and the promotional efforts of MTB FM and She Radio, which covered the event exclusively, contributed to the event’s success. The feedback from visitors and exhibitors was very positive and many expressed their excitement for the next German-Swiss Higher Education Fair.
