GERMAN SWISS HIGHER EDUCATION FAIR 2024
The German-Swiss Higher Education Fair (GSHEF) is an annual event organized by Wisma Jerman. Due to a growing demand for information about Germany and Switzerland as destinations for higher education, in 2024 the GSHEF was held on September 21st at TS Suites Artotel Surabaya.
A total of ten organisations (including Wisma Jerman) focusing on higher education in Germany were present to inform the visitors about different options to continue their education abroad and their respective requirements. Among the participating institutions were the Goethe-Institut, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Yayasan Indonesia Jerman and Studienkolleg Indonesia as well as Akademikerfinanz Mannheim representing the Techniker Krankenkasse.
The GSHEF 2024 was opened with remarks from Ms. Ina Lepel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, followed by remarks by Mr. Mike Neuber, Director of Wisma Jerman and Ms. Hannilette Diola, The Head of Language Department of Wisma Jerman. Thereafter all exhibitors had the chance to introduce themselves and their activities in front of the audience and welcomed visitors at their respective booths where they shared tip#s and tricks and offered individual counselling.
After being introduced at last year’s GSHEF, this year’s event again expanded its scope and included vocational education (Ausbildung) as an important aspect. The event was divided into three topic sections. The first section covered the preparation for studying in Germany, like German language learning, learning about student life and learning about insurance as an important characteristic of living in Germany. The second section focused on the study programs and the profiles of selected German universities, like University Duisburg-Essen, the Deggendorf Institute of Technology and the Leibniz University Hannover. The two latter institutions participated in a hybrid format directly from Germany.
Approximately 200 people came to find out about options for studying in Germany and learn about student life and scholarships. In the last presentation section, attendees also had the opportunity to learn how to do an Ausbildung in Germany and much more.
Other highlights of the agenda included a Schnupperkurs (short course in German) conducted by the Wisma Jerman team and entertaining quizzes and mini games about the GSHEF, Germany and Wisma Jerman. Participants in these activities could win Wisma Jerman goodie bags as well as exciting prizes provided by some of the supporters of the event such as the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, E&W Burgers and Cheers Mineral Water.
The continued support of all parties involved and the promotional efforts of KLIK FM, Harian Disway, Superradio, She Radio, JavasTV, Ngopibareng and Dilarang Duduk which covered the event exclusively, contributed to the event’s success. The feedback from visitors and exhibitors was very positive and many expressed their excitement for the next German-Swiss Higher Education Fair. We would like to take the opportunity to thank all exhibitors, sponsors, media partners and visitors for their support and we look forward to welcoming you back at next year’s GSHEF.
