GERMAN SWISS HIGHER EDUCATION FAIR 2025
The German-Swiss Higher Education Fair (GSHEF) is an annual event organized by Wisma Jerman. Responding to the growing demand for information about Germany as a destination for higher education, the 2025 GSHEF took place on September 20th at TS Suites Artotel Surabaya. For only the second time since its inception, the fair was held in a hybrid format. This allowed German institutions to participate online – a feature that proved highly beneficial for both visitors and exhibitors, and which contributed greatly to the success of the event.
A total of twelve organizations (including Wisma Jerman) focusing on higher education in Germany were present to inform visitors about study and vocational education opportunities abroad and their respective requirements. Among the participants were the Goethe-Institut, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Yayasan Indonesia Jerman and Studienkolleg Indonesia, Private Studienkollegs Leipzig Halle, University of Duisburg-Essen with its Freshman and Fast Track Programs, and Akademikerfinanz Mannheim representing Techniker Krankenkasse. In addition, four German universities joined the event virtually: Leibniz University Hannover, Deggendorf Institute of Technology, Furtwangen University, and the University of Cologne.
The fair was officially opened by Mr. Mike Neuber, Director of Wisma Jerman. Afterwards, all exhibitors had the opportunity to introduce themselves and their programs to the audience while also welcoming visitors at their respective booths, where they shared valuable tips and offered individual counselling.
Building on the experience of recent years, this year’s GSHEF once again included vocational education (Ausbildung) as an important topic. The program was divided into three thematic sections. The first focused on preparing for studies and working in Germany, including language learning and pathways to Ausbildung. The second highlighted study programs and university profiles, presented in hybrid format directly from Germany. The final section covered practical aspects of student life, such as health insurance, scholarship opportunities, and insights into living in Germany.
The event attracted more than 220 students, parents, and educators eager to explore the diverse educational pathways available in Germany. Visitors actively participated in Q&A sessions and sought advice at the exhibition booths. In doing so, the fair not only underlined Germany’s strong academic reputation but also emphasized the rising demand for skilled professionals across various sectors. Overall, GSHEF 2025 successfully connected aspiring students and trainees with valuable resources and opportunities, fostering a deeper understanding of the German educational landscape.
Additional highlights included a Schnupperkurs (short German course) conducted by the Wisma Jerman team, as well as fun quizzes and mini-games related to GSHEF, Germany, and Wisma Jerman. Winners received goodie bags and attractive prizes supported by partners such as Cheers Mineral Water.
The event’s success was further strengthened by the ongoing support of all partners and the promotional contributions of KLIK FM, Superradio, She Radio, EU Centre UNAIR, and Suara Merdeka Jatim, which covered the fair exclusively. Feedback from both visitors and exhibitors was overwhelmingly positive, with many already looking forward to the next edition of the German-Swiss Higher Education Fair.
We would like to thank all exhibitors, sponsors, media partners, and visitors for their contributions, and we look forward to welcoming you back at GSHEF 2026.
