Wisma Jerman Perkenalkan Festival Film Baru dengan Film im Fokus 2019

From Desember 5^th to 8^th Wisma Jerman organized a week characterized by the topic film and some of its manifold facets. The event which was held for the first time aimed at looking at the medium film in a critical and comprehensive manner. Moreover, by taking on the theme “Strength in Unity” the Wisma Jerman film week set out to promote the values of togetherness and cooperation through media and art.

The sequence of events began on the 5^th of Desember 2019 with the opening ceremony followed by a screening of the short movie “Perjumpaan” and a subsequent discussion with some of the artists behind it. The movie is a local production that picks out the struggle for Indonesian independence as its central theme and sets it in context with recent developments in the Indonesian society. The first day of Film im Fokus 2019 was concluded with a classical concert by the Cineclassic Trio. The trio which consists of one Indonesian and two Italian musicians, played a choice of musical themes from well-known blockbuster movies that awakened a warm feeling of nostalgia in everyone present.

The following days, Desember 6^th & 7^th, Wisma Jerman collaborated with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as a host of the Global Migration Film Festival 2019 that had been integrated into Wisma Jerman’s film week. The two days were filled with a selection of feature length and short movies from different countries, all revolving around migration and its impacts on migrants and host communities. Additionally a small photo exhibition showcased pictures of migrants and their everyday life in Indonesia. The first day also included a discussion session with representatives of IOM, including a representative of Surabaya’s migrant community and the photographer behind the exhibition. The discussion among others raised issues that many migrants face like alienation, lack of integration and activities, uncertainty, confusion, prejudices, depression and more.

Hari terakhir mengundang pecinta film untuk berbincang santai dengan komunitas film lokal INFIS tentang aspek teknis pembuatan film di balik layar. Dua pembicara hadir untuk berbicara tentang arah artistik dalam pembuatan film. Selama pertukaran santai, para peserta dapat berinteraksi langsung dengan pembicara dan mengajukan pertanyaan tanpa jarak antara pembicara dan penonton.
