PURWARUPA “MUTUAL COOPERATION IN DESIGN”
Starting 2024, the Visual Communication Design Study Program at Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University, in collaboration with Wisma Jerman, presented an exhibition titled “PURWARUPA”. This was the first volume in a series of ongoing exhibitions featuring the works of Visual Communication Design (VCD) students. The goal of which is to display creative student prototypes to the public. The event was also a promising start to pave the way for future volumes, each one of which will be a unique exploration of visual communication in the ever-changing world of design.
The exhibition was themed “Mutual Cooperation in Design” and was the result of a collaboration carried out by the Visual Communication Design Department at Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University with several other campuses, such as the UPN Veteran Jawa Timur (UPNVJT), Universitas Nahdlatul Ulama Sidoarjo (UNUSIDA), and the Institut Asia Malang. By choosing this theme for the exhibition it is hoped that each exhibitor can get an understanding of the work of other participants to find out how far they have explored their work, so that they gain new skills and knowledge to become more creative and innovative in the future.
At least 50 visitors attended the event which was held on 17-19 of January 2024. Opened by Mrs. Prof. Dr. Dra. Tatik Suryani, S. Psi., M.M the Vice Rector of Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University, Mr. Moch. Nurhadi, S. Kom., M. Kom. the Dean of the Faculty of Technology and Design of Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University and Mr. Dhahana Adi Pungkas the Cultural Program Assistant of Wisma Jerman.
The exhibition not only presented a selection of the students’ works, but on the following day, January 18, 2024, a linocut workshop was also held with Mr. Nanang Setiyoko, S.Pd., M.A., one of the DKV lecturers at Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University. The workshop, which was attended by 15 people, gave participants an opportunity to create their own unique works of art through a combination of cutting skills and coloring techniques. Thus, each participant could create works that suited their individual creativity and aesthetic preferences.
On the last day, 2 (two) movies were screened. The first movie ‘Delikan’ (Verstecken und Suchen) is the result of a collaboration between DKV Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University and DKV Dinamika University Surabaya. The film tells the story of a game of hide and seek played by several young people but ends in an unexpected disaster. The second movie titled ‘Mawas’ questions the meaning of independence. It was produced by several vocational school students from Surabaya.
Congratulations to all the DKV students of Hayam Wuruk Perbanas University, never stop working! Hopefully this event will be able to inspire the students and other young people to create and innovate.
