German Water Delegation Visit to Surabaya – March 28, 2019

Together with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the German Water Partnership (GWP), the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (EKONID) hosted a 5-day delegation program for 12 German companies specialized in water and wastewater technology. The program covered the two largest Indonesian cities, Jakarta and Surabaya, and aimed to explore business opportunities with local companies in Indonesia.

The first day in Surabaya started with a networking dinner at Sarkies Restaurant, Majapahit Hotel. Along with the delegates, some major local market players from the Indonesian water and wastewater treatment industry, the Indonesian Water Association (IdWA), as well as members of EKONID in East Java were also invited to participate in the event.

The next morning, the program continued with a Business Forum on Water and Wastewater Treatment Technology Solutions in the Balai Adika Ballroom, Majapahit Hotel Surabaya. Around 75 participants from related local companies took part in this event. The forumwas opened by Mr. Stephan Blocks, Deputy Head of Business Development at EKONID, followed by Mr. Christopher Tjokrosetio, the designated Honorary Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany for Surabaya, and Ms. Anna Lechermann, who represented the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy.

The following remarks by Mr. Mujiaman Sukirno, President Director of PDAM Surya Sembada Surabaya, explained the recently announced plans of PDAM Surabaya to distribute clean water to the community that can be consumed according to world health standards.  The forum enabled both the German and Indonesian companies, to exchange information on the development of technology from their respective countries and get into contact with decision makers and sector experts.

After lunch, B2B matchmaking meetings were held at the same venue. A total of 20 Indonesian companies participated in the meetings and took the chance to discuss directly with the German delegation participants.

Overall, the responses from the participants of the event were very positive, reflecting a successful mission for each of the parties involved in the German Water Delegation 2019.
