GSHEF 2022: Achieve Your Goals by Continuing Your Education in Germany or Switzerland

The German-Swiss Higher Education Fair (GSHEF) is an annual event organized by Wisma Jerman. This year it was held on Sunday, September 18, 2022. After 2 years of being conducted online, this time the GSHEF was held again with an onsite format. In collaboration with SEE-UNI and Universitas Negeri Surabaya (UNESA), it took place at the T2 Building, Auditorium Prof. Dr. Leo Idra Ardiana, M.Pd, Faculty of Language and Arts, UNESA Lidah Wetan, Surabaya. A total of 10 organisations (including Wisma Jerman) focusing on higher education in Germany and Switzerland were present to inform the visitors about the requirements and ways to continue their education abroad. Among the participating institutions were the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Studienbrücke by the Goethe-Institut, Yayasan Indonesia Jerman and Studienkolleg Indonesia as well as Akademikerfinanz Mannheim representing the Techniker Krankenkasse.

The GSHEF 2022 was opened with remarks from Ms. Ina Lepel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, followed by remarks by Mr. Mike Neuber, Director of Wisma Jerman and Dr. Trisakti M.Si., Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Arts UNESA. Thereafter all fair participants introduced themselves and their activities in front of the audience and received visitors at their respective booths where they shared tips and tricks and offered individual counselling.

After being introduced at last year’s GSHEF, this year’s event again expanded its scope and included vocational education (Ausbildung) as an important aspect. Approximately 350 people came to find out more about options for studying in Germany and Switzerland, learn about student life and scholarships, how to participate in Ausbildung and much more. Other highlights of the agenda were a Schnupperkurs (short course in German) conducted by the Wisma Jerman team and a few quizzes and mini games about the GSHEF and Wisma Jerman. Participants in these activities could win Wisma Jerman goodie bags as well as exciting prizes provided by some of the sponsors of the event such as the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, by.U Telkomsel and Cheers. Visitors could also sample German pastries at no cost. Moreover, a book exhibition by Yayasan Pustaka Obor Indonesia and Gramedia Surabaya provided added value for the visitors.

The continued support from all parties involved and the promotional efforts of Harian DISWAY, which covered the event exclusively, contributed to the event’s success. The feedback from visitors and exhibitors was very positive and many expressed their excitement for the next German-Swiss Higher Education Fair.
