OPEN HOUSE 2024: FIT UND GESUND

On Sunday, 11th of August 2024, Wisma Jerman invited the public and friends of German language and culture to its annual Open House. This year’s edition was held under the theme ”Fit und Gesund ”. Health is the most important asset in today’s world. Increased stress, digitalisation and the demands of modern working life present a huge challenge to all of us. Therefore, it is important for us to take care of our physical and mental health. It is not only the best investment in ourselves but also a current trend in all walks of life. Another reason to choose “Fit und Gesund” as his year’s overarching Open House theme was Germany’s role as the host of the EURO 2024 which took place just a few weeks before the Open House.

The main objective of the event was to introduce German culture, education, and economic cooperation to the wider community in Surabaya and its surrounding areas. During the event, attendees could participate in a variety of games and activities revolving around being fit and living a healthy lifestyle, such as a seminar and cooking demo under the topic ”Healthy Life with Organic Foods” by Ms. Clarissa Halim, S.TP, M.Sc. (nutritionist of D’Natural Healthy Food and Resto). However, it wasn’t just all theory. We also invited our guests to become active and physical. A yoga session by Devdan Yoga and a functional training workshop with the team of F45 Training gym invited Open House visitors to do some fun exercise together.

For guests who wanted to take it a bit slower, the Open House held a large variety of quizzes and games as well as a varied and fun entertainment program including the annual Wisma Jerman Open House Rally. Our course participants proudly presented self-created posters and videos revolving around the Open House theme to the audience as part of a competition. As in previous years, our German trial class or Schnupperkurs presented a highlight of the program and was met with enthusiasm by the guests. Interested visitors could find information and receive free consultation on Wisma Jerman’s courses and exams as well as working, studying, Ausbildung and volunteering services in Germany. What is more, a Climate Fresk station invited the visitors to learn more about climate change and its causes and effects because a healthy environment is a basic prerequisite for a healthy life. Therefore, the Open House was also used to promote Wisma Jerman’s 1.000 Trees Campaign.

Adding to the fun atmosphere of the day were a Tree of Hope where guests could write down and hang up their desires, wishes and hopes especially for their healthy life, and a photo wall where visitors could put on fun accessories and take some memorable pictures. The entire event was accompanied by selected beats and music by DJ Dellen.

Last but not least, the Open House 2024 also hosted a Playstation-5 (PS-5) soccer tournament with the opportunity to win free courses at Wisma Jerman as grand prizes. A small selection of typical German dishes, cakes, coffee, and tea complimented an overall fun experience for the guests with the Wisma Jerman team. Thus, as in previous years the Wisma Jerman Open House provided an exciting experience and created unforgettable moments for everyone.
