SCIENCE FILM FESTIVAL 2022: Equal Opportunity in The World of Science

The Science Film Festival (SFF) Indonesia 2022 was held in Surabaya from 21st-25th of November 2022 with the theme “Equal Opportunity in the World of Science”. The event was attended by 1.683 students from ten schools in Surabaya and Sidoarjo from various levels of education. The participating schools in this event included SD Al Muslim Waru Sidoarjo, SMP Al Muslim Waru Sidoarjo, SMA Al Muslim Waru Sidoarjo, Yayasan Darut Ta’lim Annawawi Surabaya, SDN Dr. Soetomo I/323 Surabaya, SMP Negeri 26 Surabaya, SMA Intensif Taruna Pembangunan Surabaya, SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Taman Sidoarjo, IIS SMP Progressive Bumi Sholawat Sidoarjo, and SDN Alun-Alun Contong I/87 Surabaya. The SFF was also attended by the PASCH schools, SMAN 5 and SMAN 15 Surabaya.

Even though the SFF was held online only, the students were highly enthusiastic about watching the selected science films from various countries and to participate in several simple experiments from home. The films: “Lakou Kajou” and “Plastic Age” taught the students about saving the environment through waste management, “Climate Facts” elaborated on the increasingly unavoidable phenomenon of climate change, and “The Little Teaspoon of Sugar” as well as “Patient 4.0” informed about the dangers of degenerative diseases which affect people at an increasingly young age.

The annual held SFF aims to encourage young children to study and explore science. Through age-appropriate science movies and fun experiments, the students can learn about scientific topics and develop awareness for issues that exist in our society. After a fun and successful SFF 2022, we look forward to bringing science topics closer to the next generation at the Science Film Festival Indonesia 2023 in Surabaya.
